AUDITION SHEET MUSIC OPTIONS

It might not be island time, but it’s 5 o’clock somewhere and it is time for Escape to Margaritaville Auditions.

Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville is a musical comedy featuring the most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics, including “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, “Margaritaville,” “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” “Fins,” “Volcano,” and many more. With a book by Emmy Award winner Greg Garcia (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy nominee Mike O’Malley (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this hilarious, heartwarming musical is the party you’ve been waiting for!

Are you 16 or over?

Then we are excited to invite you to audition for this amazing show.

AUDITION INFORMATION:

Auditions will be done in blocks of up to 8.  Please prepare 60 seconds of a song that is in the same genre of this show and if you are auditioning for Tully, Brick, JD, Rachel, Marley, or Tammy please prepare the cuts below as well.  Be prepared to dance, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow for movement.  We will also be doing cold readings.  Each slot will last approximately 30 minutes.

Make sure to completely fill out the audition form along with possible conflicts before coming into the auditions room.

There will be a $35 - $50 costume fee, but most costumes will be the responsibility of the actor.  We think costumes will most likely be able to come out of each actor's closet.  Think Sundresses and Hawaiian Shirts with Cargo Shorts.  Don't worry we have plenty of Hawaiian shirts, in case you for some reason don't.  Costume fees will be due by 4/13

There will be a $25 deposit to check out a paper script.  There is a free electronic link for those people who do not want a paper script.  Deposit is due at the first rehearsal on 3/26.

There is a mandatory 10 hours of set build time that each actor needs to put in toward the set, props and costumes.  There will be ample time for you to get these hours, some times are listed on the schedule already, but more opportunities will be added.  There is a $75 buy out if you do not complete your set build hours.  If you know you are not going to help with set build, please bring your $75 buy out to the first cast meeting/rehearsal.

Our plan is to double cast, understudy or swing the 6 characters listed below.  The actors should have the appearance of the listed age.

Due to the physical intimacy of some of the characters, casting will be based on both roles.  One of the roles of JD has been precast.

Double/understudies/swings will be cast based on the number of people who audition and conflicts.

Possible Call Backs for some characters on Tuesday 3/25 from 7:15-9:00

Cast meeting and read through is mandatory and anyone under the age of 18 needs to have a parent in attendance at this meeting on 3/27

This is a HUGE ensemble show, so no matter the part there will be a lot of stage time.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

Please note that all ethnicities and all bodies are encouraged to audition for this production as we are committed to casting a group of actors ranging in age from 16+ that will reflect the people of our community.

TULLY – Male. Character age: 27-39, any ethnicity; A smooth-talking playboy, Tully is content with the life he’s built for himself here on the island. He’s a singer/bartender at the Margaritaville resort and though he’d never admit it, he has a real soft spot for the locals. Cool and confident, he meets Rachel and learns that life might be about more than one vacation at a time. Guitar skills are useful.
This role requires onstage physical intimacy/kiss.

Prepare ‘License to Chill’ - measures 7-22

RACHEL – Female. Character age: 27-35, any ethnicity; Some might call her a work-aholic, but Rachel loves her work and is committed to doing whatever it takes to further her research and help the world. She expects high achievement from all the people she surrounds herself with and often finds herself picking up the pieces when she feels they’ve fallen short. Realistic, hard-working, and stubborn, love doesn’t come easily to Rachel until she meets Tully.
This role requires onstage physical intimacy/kiss.

Prepare ‘It’s My Job Reprise’ - measures 1-34

TAMMY – Female. Character age: 25-35, any ethnicity; Tammy has a larger-than-life sense of humor and finds joy in the world wherever she goes. Her fiancé, Chad, doesn’t always see things her way and she often makes herself smaller to keep their relationship steady. A loyal friend and lover of puns, Tammy really needs this vacation!
The role requires onstage intimacy/kiss.

Prepare ‘Cheeseburger in Paradise’ - measures 15-41 and ‘Fins’ - measures 42-58

BRICK – Male. Character age: 27-39, any ethnicity; The best bartender on the island, Brick could make a golden retriever seem unloyal. He’s got a huge heart, a sensitive soul, and loves helping those around him.
This role requires onstage intimacy/kiss.

Prepare ‘We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About’ - measures 5-37

MARLEY – Female. Character age: 45-60, written as a native Islander but open to any ethnicity; The owner of the resort, Marley has put her life and soul into this place. She works hard and tries to keep everyone in line, but she loves her employees (and all the island gossip). She’s no-nonsense, knows what she needs from others, and knows exactly how to get it.

Prepare ‘Tuesday on the Island’ - measures 2-18

JD – Male. Character age: 50-65, any ethnicity (he’s identified as 76 in the play); A funny, endearing older man. He looks something of a washed-ashore pirate, but he knows his place at the resort so he doesn’t get in trouble with Marley. A good-natured drunk who’s losing his hearing and his vision. He talks about a big life, but no one believes any of it is true.  One of the roles of JD has been precast.

Prepare ‘Wednesday on the Island’ - measures 1-24

Jamal - Busboy and Marley’s right-hand man at Margaritaville

Prepare ‘Volcano’ - measures 117-143.

ENSEMBLE Ages 16+ - all genders and ethnicities; these people will range from islanders to tourists to wedding guests. There will be lots to do within this ensemble and many will still have featured dialogue and vocal lines. They are the heart and soul of the show that help keep all of the action moving!
